Custom kitchens in Guelph

Hailey Inc builds custom kitchens in Guelph from our own shop at 2270 Gordon Street South. Your cabinets are designed for your room, cut on our CNC, primed and painted in house, and installed by the same crew that built them. Because the shop is right here in the city, a site visit, a look at a finish sample or a return trip for an adjustment is a short drive, not a day out.

Local and family owned

A Guelph shop since 2005.

Hailey Inc started in Guelph in 2005 as a family owned and operated business, named in memory of owner Matt's daughter, Hailey. Twenty years later the business is still run from the south end of the city, and every kitchen we build still carries her name. A portion of our workmanship is donated to a charitable foundation towards the study of infant death.

Guelph readers have named us their pick in the Readers' Choice Awards ten times, and we are a Community Votes Platinum winner for kitchen specialists and cabinet makers.

  • In the south end. Our shop is at 2270 Gordon Street South, Unit 2.
  • Everything under one roof. Design, CNC cutting, assembly, priming, painting and installation.
  • One crew. The people who build your cabinets are the people who install them.

Guelph homes

What we build for Guelph homes.

Guelph's housing runs from nineteenth century stone and brick homes around downtown, Exhibition Park and St. George's Park, through post war bungalows and 1970s backsplits, to the subdivisions built since the 1990s in the south and east ends. Each one asks something different of a kitchen, and these are the jobs we see most often.

  • Older homes near downtown. Kitchens here are often small and closed in. Opening a wall to the dining room and running cabinets to the ceiling makes the most of every inch.
  • Bungalows and backsplits. Galley and U shaped kitchens where a peninsula or a reworked layout adds counter space and a place to sit.
  • Newer south end homes. Open layouts in neighbourhoods like Westminster Woods and Pine Ridge, where builder grade cabinets give way to a bigger island, a full pantry wall and a painted finish.
  • Basement suites. Second kitchens and kitchenettes for basement apartments and in law suites, sized to fit a smaller space.
Local details

Guelph details we plan around.

Guelph draws nearly all of its drinking water from groundwater, and that water is hard. Many Guelph kitchens have a softener line, a reverse osmosis filter or both under the sink, so we plan the sink cabinet with room for the equipment and access to the valves.

Walls and floors in older Guelph homes are rarely straight or level. We measure on site and scribe cabinets and filler panels to the walls, so the finished kitchen looks built in rather than pushed up against them.

Replacing cabinets in the same layout does not usually need a building permit. Removing or changing a load bearing wall, or moving plumbing, usually does, through the City of Guelph. If your plan includes that kind of work, we flag it at the estimate so it is planned before the build starts.

Cost

What a custom kitchen costs in Guelph.

Every kitchen is priced from a free estimate in your home, because the same size of room can need very different work. In Guelph the biggest difference we see is between a newer home, where new cabinets go into the existing layout, and an older home, where a wall comes out, plumbing moves and floors need levelling before a cabinet goes in.

These are the things that move the number most:

  • Size. How many cabinets, and how much wall they cover.
  • Layout changes. Walls, plumbing and wiring that move.
  • Older home repairs. Levelling floors and fixing walls opened up during the work.
  • Finish and features. Door style, painted finish, hardware, islands and pantries.
FAQ

Guelph kitchen questions.

What is a realistic budget for a kitchen remodel?

It depends on the size of the room and how much of it changes. A new custom kitchen in the same layout costs less than one where walls and plumbing move, and if your cabinet boxes are sound, a kitchen cabinet respray or refacing can cost far less than new cabinets. We will tell you honestly what your budget covers at a free estimate.

Do I need a permit to renovate my kitchen in Guelph?

Not usually for new cabinets in the same layout. Removing or changing a load bearing wall, or moving plumbing, usually needs a building permit from the City of Guelph. We will tell you at the estimate if your plan includes that kind of work.

Where is your shop in Guelph?

Our shop is at 2270 Gordon Street South, Unit 2, in the south end of Guelph. Every custom kitchen we sell is built and finished there.

Do you build kitchens for older Guelph homes?

Yes. We regularly work in older homes where walls and floors are out of square. We measure on site and scribe the cabinets to the walls so everything fits tight.

Can you leave room under the sink for a water softener or filter?

Yes. Guelph's water is hard, and many homes have a softener line or a reverse osmosis filter at the sink. We plan the sink cabinet around the equipment you have or plan to add.
